Founder of Hemphill Fine Arts, which opened in 1993, Mr. Hemphill has 40 years of experience as a curator, art dealer, and consultant. He has served on the boards of directors of DC Arts Center, FotoWeek DC, and Washington Project for the Arts. At HEMPHILL, he has supported and exhibited the work of consequential American artists including Sam Gilliam, William Christenberry, Romare Bearden, Alma Thomas, Renée Stout, Gene Davis, Anne Truitt, and Kenneth Noland. He continues to highlight work by young, cutting-edge, and emerging contemporary artists, including Hedieh Javanshir Ilchi, Julie Wolf, and Linling Lu.
