About Ephemeral Fatale
By way of meticulous movement, sonic worldbuilding, and obsessive to-do lists, Area Woman will usher audiences through an interactive performance that will inspire connection and rearrange expectations. The performance will feel like a cabaret-puppet-show-murder-mystery-birthday-party.

You clench your age like a rose between your teeth.
You wear those wrinkles and those scars like badges.
The geezer is 88 years old, going lame in the hip and blind in the eye but still by God full of life and language and outrages. He’s spending his dotage exploring, chronicling, braving and where possible celebrating the process of growing old and sniffing out stuff with more meaning than the long march to the grave.
At this event he will read from his own poetry and from that of others, Whitman, Yeats, Olds, etc. Bring something yourself. Prepare for conversation and laughter.

I will draw a customized artist’s template for a text-based tattoo—150 characters or less—for the winning bidder to take to a tattoo parlor of their choice. We’ll meet at my studio to discuss ideas and select a typeface. Or, if the winning bidder prefers, they can provide a handwriting sample for their tattoo to be drawn in. In the past, I have designed tattoos for friends based on samples of a family member’s handwriting, original correspondence, or a favorite quote.
I will give the winner three different options to choose from and then hand draw the final design. The final drawing is theirs to keep.
Learn how to create artwork with hot wax in a three hour private session led by established Washington, DC artist Ellyn Weiss in her Mt. Rainier studio. You will make your own 12″ x 12″ piece of art as Weiss demonstrates the technique of encaustic painting, which uses pigmented hot wax to paint.
This workshop is an investigation into the cyanotype process and will demonstrate the techniques used for making these aptly named blue-toned prints.
Using a special emulsion, you’ll be able to print negatives using your own photos, which will be printed onto transparent acetate. In addition, we will experiment with placing objects directly onto the light sensitive paper to create photo silhouettes.
Participants will learn the basics of MIG welding and Steel cutting, including safety and best practices from an American Welding Society certified D1.1 3G structural steel welder, Eric Celarier. Participants will create a small sculpture project that is theirs to keep at the end at the end of the day.

“I want to thank you for being so patient, understanding and helpful with me given my limitations, and something I am very self-conscious about, but I truly felt so beautiful, and maybe a little like this was more for me than for him. You made me feel so comfortable and you’re so easy going that it just made the whole thing a great experience.” — Nicolle
